DMK president MK Stalin on Tuesday set up a 10-member party reorganisation advisory panel to study feedback from party members and suggest changes in the party structure from the branch level to the top. The move comes as the party looks to rebuild after its Assembly election defeat and prepare to return to winning ways.

The panel has been asked to submit its recommendations in the first week of August. Stalin said the proposed changes would cover party districts, various wings, committees linked to elections, a permanent set-up for election work, and the possible creation of a think tank to advise the leadership.

In a party statement, the former chief minister recalled that a 38-member committee had been formed after the Assembly poll setback to assess the ground situation by interacting with party workers. He said he was going through the reports submitted to him. He also said opinions were sought online through Vudanpirappin Kural, which brought in around six lakh responses. According to him, those inputs were processed using AI and a report had been prepared, which he was also examining.

Stalin said the overall feedback supported a reorganisation of the party in line with present-day needs.

He said, "Based on that, I have some views regarding the reorganisation and reconstruction of the party. I believe this is the right time to carry out the necessary restructuring from the branch level to the top party bodies, in order to rejuvenate the party. We must realise that reorganisation and reconstruction are absolutely essential for us to eliminate our past shortcomings and approach the public in a fresh format."

He added that the recommendations would be discussed in the party's top bodies and with district secretaries before the exercise was carried out.

The panel includes party leaders Thangam Thennarasu, Geetha Jeevan, R Sakkarapani and SS Sivasankar, who are set to lead it. The other members are Tamilarasi Ravikumar, MM Abdullah, I Paranthamen, S Murasoli, M P Ezhilan and SKP Karuna.

In the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held on April 23, C Joseph Vijay-led TVK won 108 seats, defeating the incumbent DMK led by Stalin, which finished with 59 seats. Against that backdrop, Stalin has now initiated a broad internal review and reorganisation exercise, with a report from the new panel expected in early August.
