Reiterating the time had come to revamp the DMK’s organisational structure from the grassroots to the high command to infuse fresh energy into the party, DMK president M.K. Stalin on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) announced the formation of a committee to recommend organisational reforms.

The committee comprises former Ministers Thangam Thennarasu, Geetha Jeevan, R. Sakkarapani, S.S. Sivasankar and Tamilarasi Ravikumar; MP Murasoli, former MP M.M. Abdullah; and former MLAs I. Paranthaman and Dr. Ezhilan; and party functionary S.K.P. Karuna.

“The committee will submit its recommendations by the first week of August on redrawing party district boundaries, reorganising affiliated wings, restructuring the election committee, constituting a permanent election management team, establishing a think tank and other organisational reforms,” Mr. Stalin said in a statement. The recommendations would be discussed with the party’s high-level committee and district secretaries before the revamp was implemented.

Mr. Stalin said he had earlier constituted 19 teams, each comprising two members, to visit all Assembly constituencies in the State and gather the views of party cadres and functionaries. The teams had submitted their reports, following which he held separate discussions with each of them.

“I have gone through their reports and made detailed notes,” he said, adding the party had also received nearly six lakh suggestions through an online feedback exercise.

Stating the overwhelming opinion among party members favoured an organisational overhaul, Mr. Stalin said he too had several ideas on restructuring and strengthening the party.
