The State Election Commission has received a little over one lakh applications for fresh enrolment on the voters’ list within three days of publishing the draft rolls.

The Commission, headed by A. Shajahan, said on Saturday that it has received 1.25 lakh applications since publishing the draft voters list on July 23 ahead of its revision for the upcoming 2025 local body elections.

Of this, 1,05,948 applications were for fresh enrolment. The remaining applications pertained to corrections, transpositions and deletions.

The Commission has given time till August 7 for the public to include their names, rectify errors or make changes in the entries. The online applications have to be filed via the Commission’s website se.kerala.gov.in.

The draft list published on July 23 has 2,66,78,256 voters. The draft is based on the list used in the 2020 local body elections which had subsequently undergone revisions in 2023 and 2024 and during multiple byelections. During the 2023 revision, 8,76,879 names were removed (deceased and shifted voters and duplicated names) from the list while 57,640 new names were added. During the 2024 revision, 4,52,951 names were removed and 2,68,907 names were newly enroled, the Commission said.

Electoral Registration Officers (ERO) have been asked to make corrections if wards or polling stations have been mistakenly listed when rearranging the voters list to match the delimited wards, the Commission said. Following the ward delimitation in panchayats, municipalities and Corporations, the population was repositioned to match the reorganised wards.
