State orders inquiry into '₹1,000cr scam' in BMC hsg project

Mumbai: The state govt on Wednesday ordered an inquiry by an officer of the rank of additional chief secretary (ACS) into an alleged Rs 1,000 crore scam in a housing project planned by BMC in Malad (East) for project-affected persons (PAPs).

The project will be stayed till inquiry is completed, junior urban development minister Madhuri Misal told the assembly, reports Chaitanya Marpakwar.Misal was replying to a calling attention motion by Congress MLA Aslam Shaikh, who alleged there were irregularities in the project. Shaikh said the developer who had been appointed had not submitted plans for the project though BMC had paid the developer around Rs 1,000 crore in the form of credit notes and given away 100% Transfer of Development rights over the last couple of years.
