Nagpur: The Maharashtra govt has transferred Rs 713.96 crore directly into the bank accounts of 8,83,965 farmers affected by natural disasters in the Nagpur division during the 2025-26 financial year.The assistance, released through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, covers crop and farmland losses caused by heavy rain, floods and unseasonal rain. The disbursal followed chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’s directions to expedite compensation for disaster-affected farmers.Divisional commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari said the state approved 9,95,523 claims across the six districts of the Nagpur division, sanctioning a total relief package of Rs 796.71 crore.Of the approved amount, Rs 713.96 crore has already been credited to 8,83,965 beneficiaries. The remaining eligible farmers will receive assistance after verification and completion of the fund disbursal process, she said.Under the state’s disaster relief policy, compensation is provided for losses caused by heavy rain, floods, unseasonal rain and drought. The assistance covers crop damage, loss of agricultural land, house collapses, livestock deaths and ex gratia payments in cases of loss of life.
Wardha received the highest allocation, with Rs 224.83 crore disbursed to 2,35,427 beneficiaries. Chandrapur followed with Rs 133.74 crore credited to 1,90,750 farmers, while Nagpur district received Rs 124.58 crore for 1,15,287 beneficiaries.Gondia received Rs 88.52 crore for 1,37,187 beneficiaries, Bhandara Rs 84.12 crore for 1,26,910 beneficiaries, and Gadchiroli Rs 58.15 crore for 78,404 beneficiaries.Bidari said district administrations have been directed to complete verification and disburse assistance to the remaining eligible beneficiaries on priority to ensure that all approved farmers receive the sanctioned relief without delay.
