Most Indian states have 70 to nearly 100 percent non-vegetarian population, with poorer groups eating more meat.

In all except three states, the majority eats meat, with most states recording 70% to nearly 100% non-vegetarian population.

The share of non-vegetarians in India has risen steadily over time, increasing among both men and women. Men continue to consume more non-veg than women, with the gap remaining consistent.

There is a clear rich-poor gap in non-veg consumption, with poorer groups eating more meat than the rich, especially among women.

Very few Indians consume meat daily, with most eating it only occasionally, while fish and eggs are consumed slightly more frequently than chicken or meat.
