Stefon Diggs' future remains one of the biggest unanswered questions of the NFL offseason, but one former All-Pro believes the veteran wide receiver could still play a meaningful role for a championship contender.

While Diggs continues to weigh his next move after becoming a free agent, fresh predictions have linked him with the Pittsburgh Steelers, a team entering what could be Aaron Rodgers' final NFL season. The suggestion comes at a time when Diggs has also fueled speculation about a possible return to Buffalo, keeping multiple storylines alive as training camp approaches.

Could Stefon Diggs be the missing piece for the Steelers' Super Bowl push?

Stefon Diggs has spent months on the open market after parting ways with the New England Patriots, but that has not stopped analysts from connecting him with teams that believe they are close to contending.Former Seahawks star and current NFL analyst Richard Sherman sees Pittsburgh as one of those teams. Speaking on his podcast, Sherman argued that the Steelers still need another experienced target despite making additions during the offseason. With Aaron Rodgers preparing for what is widely expected to be the final season of his career, Pittsburgh's front office has little reason to think long term."I think a team with a young receiving corps [or] an inexperienced receiving corps could take a shot at him," Sherman said.

"Could the Pittsburgh Steelers use him? I think they could."The idea is simple. Aaron Rodgers has always relied on receivers he can trust in critical situations. Stefon Diggs may no longer be expected to carry an offense on his own, but his route running, experience, and ability to create separation could still make him a valuable contributor if his role is managed correctly.Sports Illustrated reporter Jack Markowski also believes the fit makes football sense, though he pointed to one major hurdle."With Aaron Rodgers heading into what looks like the last hurrah of his NFL career, stockpiling talent and essentially taking more pressure off of him should be a priority for the organization," Markowski wrote."The additions of Michael Pittman Jr. and Germie Bernard this offseason already accomplished that goal, though with a noticeable lack of proven depth beyond them and DK Metcalf, the Steelers would do well to address that hole this summer."Money, however, could complicate any deal."The Steelers also have the least amount of cap space in the league, per Over the Cap, at $3.192 million," Markowski wrote. "If Diggs lingers on the market for a little while longer and is willing to accept a bit of a limited role in exchange for playing for a playoff contender, then maybe he could become a realistic option."At the same time, Diggs has not completely closed the door on Buffalo.

The former Bills star recently posted a highlight reel from his time with the franchise on Instagram, adding the caption, "Iono might gotta get back in that 14…" The message quickly sparked discussion among fans, especially considering how his departure unfolded in 2024 after months of cryptic social media activity.Any team interested in Diggs now has greater clarity surrounding his availability. He was acquitted in May after facing allegations involving a former personal chef, and the NFL later confirmed he would not face a suspension. That decision removes a significant obstacle, leaving football fit and financial flexibility as the biggest factors in determining where the veteran receiver plays in 2026.
