Joe Burrow breaks down preseason mistakes in ESPN interview
Burrow pointed to both positives and negatives from the Bengals’ preseason outing.“Still got some kinks to work out,” Burrow told Rutledge. “Some good plays, some bad plays, that’s football. But good to make those mistakes in the preseason this year rather than the regular season.”The quarterback outlined key errors. “I had two balls on the ground. I missed the first third down. Took a bad sack. Off the top of the head, those are the ones I want back,” he said.Burrow added that he was encouraged by training camp and the preseason opener but admitted this contest featured mistakes he plans to clean up. He also praised wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley, who caught two touchdown passes from backup Jake Browning. “That guy’s been making plays all of camp. I’ve been really happy for him.”
Zac Taylor and Joe Burrow reflect on Cincinnati Bengals’ preseason outlook
Head coach Zac Taylor viewed the preseason reps as valuable for his starter. In his halftime interview with ESPN, Taylor said, “He did a good job.
It’s good to get out here in these preseason situations, feel the rush, feel the environment, be in the huddle with his guys.”Burrow finished 18 of 24 for 185 yards and three touchdowns across five drives, posting a 136.8 passer rating. Despite the miscues, the Bengals averaged 5.6 points per possession with him under center. After the game, Burrow stressed his long-term goals. “I have high expectations. We have a lot of great players on this team.
I have high expectations for myself. I’m trying to get better every single year. There’s certainly room for me to improve. That’s really what I’m focused on is taking that next step.”He added confidence in the roster’s ceiling. “The sky’s the limit (for this team). Just like when every team expects to come in and win the Super Bowl. We’ve just got to get off to a fast start and not panic in some high-stress situations. We’re gonna find ourselves in some adversity just like every team does. But we’ve been there before so we’ll be able to handle it.”
