Stock in dams increase after catchment areas report heavy rainfall

Kolhapur: Water levels in dams across Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts have started to increase after the catchment areas received heavy rainfall.Water cuts were enforced by the authorities in cities and towns owing to the depleting water levels in the dams.

Hence, the onset of rainfall has offered some relief to the residents.The catchment area of Koyna dam received 134mm rainfall between Tuesday and Wednesday evening. The rainfall at Koyna, Navaja and Mahabaleshwar (91mm) caused water stock in the dam to rise from 8.69TMC to 8.85TMC in a day.Radhangari dam’s stock increased from 1.83 TMC to 1.84 TMC due to heavy rainfall — around 61mm in 24 hours. Similarly, stock in Warana dam rose to 11.3 TMC from 11.2 TMC after its catchment area received 27 mm showers.The famous waterfall from Ozarde in Satara district has come to life after heavy rainfall in the ghat areas.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert for the region on Wednesday and it is likely to continue on Thursday. On Wednesday afternoon, Kolhapur city also received heavy rainfall.
