Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday strongly criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for raising questions over the death of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar in a plane crash. He called her remarks “dirty and petty politics" and said it was deeply regrettable to politicise a tragic death.
What Fadnavis said?
Responding to Mamata Banerjee’s statement, Fadnavis said it was sad that politics was being played over someone’s death. He pointed out that Sharad Pawar had already said the incident was an accident and appealed to leaders not to indulge in politics. Fadnavis said Mamata Banerjee was stooping to a very low level and should not have made such statements or defamed Ajit Pawar.

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde too echoed the same. He said, “I still cannot believe he is no longer with us. I met the family and they are deeply saddened. He was kind-hearted, made a significant contribution to Maharashtra’s politics, and this tragedy should not be politicised."
Mamata seeks SC-monitored probe
Earlier in the day, Mamata Banerjee claimed that Ajit Pawar was planning to quit the NDA and join the INDIA bloc. She raised doubts over the plane crash and demanded a high-level investigation under the monitoring of the Supreme Court. She said Pawar was expected to change sides and questioned how the crash took place.
