Raghav Chadha News: After days of speculation over his political future, Arvind Kejriwal’s once trusted aide Raghav Chadha on Friday announced that he would quit the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) along with six other MPs and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab had been largely absent from party activities after Kejriwal’s arrest in the alleged liquor policy case ahead of the 2024 Indian general election. The AAP had also claimed that Chadha declined to take on responsibilities assigned to him during the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.

Chadha, one of AAP’s most prominent national spokespersons, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab in 2022, making him one of the youngest members of Parliament. He played a key organisational role in Punjab, particularly during the 2022 Assembly elections, where he helped shape strategy and coordinate the party’s campaign.

A former MLA from Delhi, Chadha has also been closely involved in election planning, messaging, and outreach for AAP across multiple states.

What Was The Trigger Behind Raghav Chadha’s Revolt?

As an MP, Raghav Chadha has served on key parliamentary committees, particularly those dealing with finance and governance. He was also one of the prominent voices of the Aam Aadmi Party in Parliament, alongside Sanjay Singh.

Earlier this month, AAP replaced Chadha with Ashok Kumar Mittal as the party’s Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha.

The party reportedly felt that Chadha had taken a relatively soft stance towards the Bharatiya Janata Party and had not been sufficiently critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government in his speeches. Chadha, however, rejected these claims, stating that his focus remained on raising issues concerning the public.

Why Raghav Chadha Quit AAP?

Announcing his decision along with other six MPs, Raghav Chadha said the AAP is now being run by corrupt and compromised people.

“The AAP, which I nurtured with my blood and sweat, and gave 15 years of my youth to, has deviated from its principles, values and core morals. Now this party does not work in the interest of the nation but for its personal benefits…For the past few years, I could feel that I am the right man in the wrong party. So, today, we announce that I am distancing myself from the AAP and getting close to public," he said.
