All the 1,100 streetlights on the 17-km-long Container Road will be commissioned by July 15, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has informed Hibi Eden, MP.

All statutory inspections have been done for the purpose. The NHAI is monitoring the progress of the pending electrical works on the stretch. The lights and allied infrastructure like transformers were installed at a cost of ₹10 crore, while a pair of high-mast lights was installed using ₹10 lakh from the MP fund, said a release issued by Mr. Eden.

The MP had taken up the matter in the Lok Sabha and also with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. The national highway corridor (Container Road) provides a direct link from the International Container Transhipment Terminal at Vallarpadam to Kalamassery.
