Student dies by suicide in Saharsa lodge

In a tragic incident, Prashant Kumar, a 19-year-old pursuing a Bachelor of Arts, was discovered lifeless at a lodge in Saharsa on Tuesday. The landlord raised the alarm after noticing the door to Prashant's room was locked from the inside. Authorities, including local police and forensics teams, are currently probing the case, with initial evidence pointing towards suicide.

Patna: A 19-year-old student died by suicide in a lodge in Town area (ward no. 18) of Saharsa Municipal Corporation on Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Prashant Kumar, son of Harishchandra Sharma alias Chhotu, a resident of Ratanpura (ward no.

13) under Gheldha police station area in Madhepura district.According to his family, Prashant was pursuing his BA part-III at T P College in Madhepura and had been staying at Mohan Sah’s lodge in Sant Nagar area of Saharsa for the past five months. He was the eldest of two brothers.His cousin, Mithun Kumar, said the landlord of the lodge contacted the family on Tuesday morning, informing them that Prashant’s room door was locked from inside and there was no response.

When they looked through the window, they found his body hanging from the ceiling fan.Upon receiving the information, officers from Saharsa Sadar police station reached the lodge. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team also arrived, and they broke the gate of the locked room. The body was sent to the district hospital for the postmortem.SHO, Saharsa Sadar police station, Subodh Kumar, said prima facie the incident appeared to be a case of suicide. He added that the family remained unaware of any specific reasons behind the extreme step. “The police are conducting an investigation into all possible angles to ascertain the circumstances leading to the suicide. The FSL team collected the evidence for further examination,” the SHO said.
