Chaitra V.C., a student staying at the Government Children’s Home for Girls in Shivamogga, has cleared the SSLC examination with 89%, a rare achievement among children who live at the home.

The homes, administered by the Department of Women and Child Welfare, are meant for children with disturbed childhoods. Chaitra has been at the girls’ home in the city for the last six years. The Child Welfare Committee admitted her to the Government High School at Gadikoppa. She secured 561/625 and scored 100% in Kannada (125/125) and Hindi (100/100). With those marks, she secured the top position in the school as well.
