A team of students from Shree Bharath Vidyaashram CBSE Senior Secondary School, Puducherry is among the recipients of the Wipro earthian Awards 2025.

A press note from Wipro Limited, which recently hosted the 15th edition of the Wipro earthian Awards 2025 at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, said Anurag Behar, Chief Executive Officer, Azim Premji Foundation, and Narayan P. S., Global Head of Sustainability and Societal Initiatives, Wipro Limited, and Managing Trustee, Wipro Foundation, presented certificates and cash prizes to the winning teams.

The annual programme seeks to promote integrated sustainability education and recognises schools and colleges across India that demonstrate meaningful and enduring engagement with sustainable practices and principles.

The team from the Puducherry school, comprising S. Prithisha, G. Varshini, S. Tanika, K. Dulasi, A. Taynshika, and guided by their teacher R. Arun Kumar, was among the 25 winning teams chosen by an independent jury that evaluated over 2,000 submissions for the 2025 Wipro earthian programme.

The projects showcased fresh insight into biodiversity, waste, and water, combining hands-on activities with reflective written work.

The team from Puducherry led a large‑scale plastic cleanup and awareness drive in the Murungapakkam mangrove forest, where 79 students collected, segregated, and documented plastic waste in just 79 minutes. Through interactions with local residents and municipal officials, they learned about poor segregation, household dumping, and inadequate waste infrastructure affecting the mangrove ecosystem.

Aiming for the Bipin Rawat World Record 2025, the initiative combined science, civic action, and media outreach, resulting in a student‑driven environmental movement and a sustainable action plan for long-term mangrove conservation, the press note said.
