Members of various student unions and youth organisations staged a dharna in Khammam on Sunday demanding a thorough probe into the ‘suspicious death’ of a Class IX student of the State-run Ashram Girls High School at Vallabhi village in Khammam district.
Leaders of the AISF, SFI, PDSU, and several other organisations took part in the demonstration.
The protesters alleged that the girl consumed ‘sleeping pills’ on Saturday, unable to bear harassment by a worker at the Ashram high school. They said that the girl died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad around midnight on Saturday.
They demanded stern action against the ‘erring staff’ of the Ashram school and sought justice to the family of the deceased.
According to sources, the protesters relented following an assurance by the officials concerned to order a detailed inquiry into the incident and render all possible help to the girl’s family.
Meanwhile, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mudigonda Police Station was not available for his comment on the exact cause of death.
