Students from remote villages seek bus service

Trichy: Students from remote villages in Vaiyampatti block of Trichy district have appealed to the state government to introduce bus services to their schools, saying they are forced to walk nearly 8km through forest stretches every day.In a video that surfaced on social media on Thursday, the students said they travel from villages such as Sukkavali and nearby hamlets to schools in Keeranur and Puthuvadi.They said the absence of public transport compels them to undertake long walks every morning and evening, causing physical strain and making their daily commute difficult.Appealing to chief minister Joseph Vijay, the transport minister, Trichy collector and the local MLA, the students urged the authorities to introduce bus services at the earliest. The videos of their appeal have since gone viral on social media.Officials of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation’s Kumbakonam division in the Trichy region were unavailable for comment.
