An anti-drug awareness programme was conducted at the Government Higher Secondary School in Thiruchendurai, near Trichy, on Thursday to educate students about the dangers of substance abuse and promote healthy lifestyle choices.

Trichy: An anti-drug awareness programme was conducted at the Government Higher Secondary School in Thiruchendurai, near Trichy, on Thursday to educate students about the dangers of substance abuse and promote healthy lifestyle choices.Held under the leadership of headmistress L Akila, the programme featured awareness poems presented by girl students highlighting the ill effects of drug abuse and the importance of staying drug-free.Teachers addressed the students on the physical and mental health consequences of substance abuse and its long-term impact on education, careers and family life. They urged students to stay away from narcotic substances and make informed choices.In her address, Akila encouraged students to spend their time productively through studies, reading and socially beneficial activities. “Such pursuits help students avoid negative influences and contribute positively to society,” she said.As part of the programme, students took an anti-drug pledge, promising to stay away from drugs and spread awareness among their peers and communities. Books were distributed to encourage reading habits, while tree saplings were handed out to promote environmental awareness and community participation.Members of the school management committee and parents attended the event and appreciated the initiative.
