A 46-year-old sub-inspector and head constable attached to Natrampalli town in Tirupattur were transferred to the Armed Reserve (AR) wing of the district police after a suspect escaped a few days ago while being taken to the Government Taluk Hospital for medical examination.

Police said that Tirupattur SP V. Shyamala Devi ordered the transfer of the two police personnel after they failed to follow the standard operating procedure while taking suspects for medical examination before being produced in a local court. The transferred police personnel are sub-inspector N. Manjunath and head constable C. Srinivasan.

Police said the suspect, V. Gangatharan, 48, who was arrested for involvement in online selling of lottery tickets in surrounding areas, was taken to the government hospital in Natrampalli town by sub-inspector Manjunath and constable Srinivasan. As two police personnel were also involved in taking a few more suspects for medical examination in the hospital, Gangatharan gave a slip to them and fled the spot.

Based on an alert, special teams were formed to search for Gangatharan, who is still believed to be absconding. Following his escape, two police personnel were transferred to the AR wing of the district police. Further probe is under way.
