The Belagavi police have booked a cases against nine persons , including a sub-registrar, on charges of trying to illegally take over land worth crores of rupees, by forging documents.
Police officers in Hukkeri, Sankeshwar and Yamakanamaradi have booked three cases against these persons.
In one case, the Hukkeri police arrested nine persons, including Madiwalayya Basavaraj Banimath, sub-registrar, and bond writer Anand Diddimani.
In another case, officers arrested seven persons as Mr. Banimath and Mr. Diddimani presented themselves before the Yamakanamaradi police station after obtaining anticipatory bail.
Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan told reporters here on Wednesday that Shivanand Maruti Kudduri a resident of Kuruni village in Hukkeri taluk, had filed a complaint saying some persons had colluded with government officers to illegally take over land worth ₹2 crore, using forged documents. He named Renuka Shankar Mali, Shivarudra Kudduri, Kashavva Shivarudra Kudduri, Neelkantha Shetteppa Mudupaki, Maita Adiveppa Shetteppa Mudupaki, Siddayya Nirupadaiya Hiremath, Anand M Daddimani, and Madiwalayya Banimath, the sub registrar, Hukkeri.
Based on the complaint, police raided Neelkantha Mudupaki’s house and recovered 22 documents, including fake Aadhaar cards, fake PAN cards and fake EPIC cards. They raided a studio ran by Ashok Rathnappa Suryavanshi, and recovered six equipment including cameras, computers and printers, that were used to prepare such fake documents.
The other cases were filed in Hukkeri and Sankeshwar police stations. Further investigation is on, the SP said.
