The South Central Railway (SCR) has suspended the concerned Ticket Checker and booked the contractor after an unauthorised decorator was allowed inside a First AC coach of the Nandigram Express to decorate a private coupe for a travelling couple.

The action came after a video showing a 1st AC coupe adorned with flowers, balloons and fairy lights went viral on social media. The clip was originally posted by a Jalna-based event decoration service called “Rahat Room Decoration". It has been deleted following criticism online and action initiated by Indian Railways.

In a post on X, South Central Railway stated that the train was decorated by a contractor hired by a couple travelling on July 6. After the video went viral, the contractor was booked, and a case was lodged against him.

“A couple travelling in Train No. 11002 Nandigram Express on 6th July, 2026 had privately engaged a decorator online to decorate their 1st AC coupe. The decorator’s entry into the coach at Jalna station was unauthorized and is viewed as a serious lapse. The concerned staff member has been placed under suspension, and a detailed departmental inquiry has been ordered. Appropriate action will be taken based on the inquiry findings," the railways wrote.

‘Suhagrat Express’

The visuals, recorded inside Train No. 110002 Nandigram Express, show a private First AC coupe transformed with elaborate decorations, including balloons, floral arrangements and thousands of rose petals. The decorated cabin, which resembled a honeymoon suite, caught widespread attention online as the train continued its journey.

The video begins with a shot of the train standing at a platform before moving through the coach corridor towards the decorated coupe. The entrance was covered with a pink beaded curtain featuring heart-shaped cut-outs.

Inside, the compartment looked dramatically different from a regular train cabin. Red and white balloons covered the ceiling, while rose petals were spread across the floor. The walls and windows were decorated with flower bouquets and garlands made of roses, marigolds and tuberose.

The lower berth was arranged with white bedsheets and featured a large heart design made from red and white flower petals. The upper berth displayed “I love you" cut-outs, while fairy lights added to the festive appearance of the coupe.

The video was later shared by several social media pages, with many users referring to it as the “Suhagrat Express."

Social Media Reacts

The incident sparked a debate on social media, with users divided over the decorated First AC coupe of the Nandigram Express. While some questioned the role of railway staff and called it a security lapse, others criticised the use of a passenger train compartment for such private celebrations.

One user asked whether railway employees and officials were “blindfolded" while the coach was being decorated, demanding action against everyone responsible, from station officials to the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

Another user questioned how the elaborate decoration went unnoticed and wrote, “Firstly I thought it has been done with a consent under authorized way. Interestingly how long it take for the decorator to complete all this? How this went unnoticed to railway staffs? A serious lapse surely!"

Some users also raised concerns over the use of premium train compartments, arguing that passenger trains should prioritise regular travellers amid reservation challenges.

However, others defended the couple, suggesting that such services could be allowed through proper channels. One user wrote, “Make it chargeable and do it for people!! Marriages need celebrations not restricting. It’s a private space they are legally married so with flower or without the story is same."
