Suhail Nayyar joins Nitesh Tiwari’s 'Ramayana' cast; 'Udta Punjab' actor to play Sugriva - Reports

Suhail Nayyar has officially joined the cast of 'Ramayana'. The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is one of the most anticipated releases of 2026 and is making noise on the social media since its announcement.

According to Variety India, the 'Single Papa' actor will play Sugriva, who is known as the righteous brother of Vali in the epic. Suhail Nayyar has previously appeared in projects like Single Papa, Nikita Roy, Hasmukh, and Udta Punjab. The production of 'Ramayana' is moving at a fast pace and reports suggest that Suhail Nayyar has already begun shooting for his role. The makers are working around the clock to meet deadlines.

Understanding Sugriva’s role in the epic

In epic Ramayan, Sugriva plays a crucial role and he becomes the ruler of Kishkindha after Lord Rama defeats Vali. Sugriva later joins Lord Rama in his mission to rescue Sita and becomes one of the key allies in the battle against Ravana. He is also believed to be the son of Surya Dev, the Sun God.

Massive star cast

The film boasts a stellar lineup of actors, with Ranbir Kapoor set to play Lord Rama.

Sai Pallavi will portray Goddess Sita. Yash is set to appear as Ravana and other actors include Ravi Dubey, Lara Dutta, and Rakul Preet Singh. Arun Govil and Indira Krishnan are also part of the cast. Reportedly, Sunny Deol will be seen as Lord Hanuman and Raghav Juyal will play Meghanad In 'Ramayana Part 2'. A report from Variety India stated that Raghav Juyal will play Meghanad also known as Indrajit.

More casting buzz

Apart from confirmed names, more casting discussions are underway. Recent reports suggest that Vijay Sethupathi is being considered for the role of Vibhishana, Ravana’s younger brother. He sides with truth and supports Lord Rama in the war. However, there has been no official confirmation yet.'Ramayana' is being made in two parts. The first installment is scheduled for release during Diwali 2026. It is also one of the most expensive Hindi films ever made.
