Sunjay Kapur's Rs 30,000 crore estate row: Priya Kapur opposes forensic test of his will after Karisma Kapoor's legal representative file plea

The legal battle between Karisma Kapoor and Priya Sachdev Kapur over the Kapur family inheritance saw an important turn at the Delhi High Court, where proceedings took place before the Joint Registrar. At the centre of the discussion was Priya Sachdev Kapur’s conduct concerning the Will on which she has based her claim.During the hearing, the court examined the Plaintiffs’ plea seeking inspection of the original Will along with a forensic analysis to establish its authenticity. Priya Sachdev Kapur objected to this request, resisting any such examination.Earlier, Karisma Kapoor’s legal representatives had questioned what they termed a “false narrative” put forward by Priya Kapur regarding her involvement in the family-run companies.

Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing for the Plaintiffs, told the court that assertions about a “routine exchange of positions” between Priya Kapur and the late Sunjay Kapur were misleading and unsupported by official corporate records.Priya Kapur’s refusal to allow forensic scrutiny has since become a point of focus, with legal experts noting that such tests are routinely relied upon to verify documents.

Her opposition, observers say, has fuelled further uncertainty surrounding the Will that lies at the heart of the dispute.The court also heard submissions relating to co-defendant Shradha Suri Marwah’s application to amend her Written Statement after discrepancies emerged between her version and that of Priya Kapur. The Plaintiffs opposed the move, arguing that it appeared to be an effort to correct contradictions only after they were highlighted.

The case is scheduled for further hearing on 20 January 2026.Sunjay Kapur, former chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away in June 2025 following a reported heart attack, amid rumours of a bizarre incident involving a bee sting. His death set off a fierce succession battle between his children from his marriage to Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor—Samaira and Kiaan—and his third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur. Complicating matters further, Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, has accused Priya of trying to take control of the family business empire, adding to a dispute that continues to play out both in court and in the public eye.
