The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday granted interim relief to self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, directing authorities not to take any coercive action against land and properties linked to his ashram in Ahmedabad.
A bench led by Justice Vikram Nath ordered that status quo be maintained, effectively putting on hold further proceedings arising from an April 17 order of the Gujarat High Court.
The apex court also observed that, prima facie, the show-cause notice issued by the municipal corporation appeared to lack adequate material particulars, raising questions over the basis of the proposed action.
