SC judges’ weekend retreat to Ranthambore begins todayThe judges who are travelling will be using their Leave Travel Concession (LTC) allowance or spend their own money for the travel.

For the second year in a row, judges of the Supreme Court along with their families will be out for a weekend retreat to Rajasthan’s Ranthambore National Park.

The Indian Express has learnt that the judges are expected to travel on September 12 and return late on September 14.

It is learnt that a special bus has been arranged for the travel that will depart from the SC premises Friday afternoon. On Mondays and Fridays, the SC sits only until lunch.

The practice was started last year when then Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna mooted the idea of a weekend retreat to Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to boost collegiality among the judges. In last year’s trip, the judges also met potential candidates for judgeship and interacted with them.

The judges who are travelling will be using their Leave Travel Concession (LTC) allowance or spend their own money for the travel. However, sources said that given their busy schedule and prior commitments, as many as seven judges have expressed difficulty to travel.

Sources said among those unable to travel is the lone female judge Justice B V Nagarathna. It is learnt that Justice Nagarathna has prior official commitments and is expected to chair a selection committee for appointments to a tribunal over the weekend. It is learnt that Justice P S Narasimha is also unlikely to travel.
