The Supreme Court is set to hear on Wednesday two petitions regarding the film ‘Udaipur Files’, which has stirred controversy ahead of its scheduled release on July 11.
The film depicts the 2022 murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan, who was killed by Mohammad Riyaz Attari and Ghaus Mohammad. The killing, carried out in broad daylight, had sparked national outrage.
A bench of Justices Suryakant and Joymala Bagchi is set to hear two separate matters. One is from the film’s producer, Amit Johnny, challenging a Delhi High Court order that temporarily halted the film’s release.
The second petition has been filed by Javed, one of the accused in the murder case, who contends that the film’s release could affect the fairness of the ongoing trial.
