Surat Industry Pushes Green Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Growth

Surat: Industrialists and entrepreneurs in Surat and south Gujarat region have called for adopting green entrepreneurship for environment protection and proper industrial waste management for sustainable development of industries in the region. This was discussed at the seminar organised by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) in collaboration with the Gujarat Cleaner Production Center and Center for Entrepreneurship Development on ‘Current Scenario of Industrial Waste Management in Gujarat and Future Opportunities through Green Entrepreneurship’.

Experts guided the entrepreneurs on how industries can reduce waste. Industries will have to pay special attention to waste analysis and selection of waste treatment technology. Proper analysis and selection of technology based on it is very important for waste management, about which the experts gave detailed information to the industrialists and professionals.

SGCCI vice-president Ashok Jirawala, emphasized the need for environmental protection and proper industrial waste management for the sustainable development of industries. He said that along with the development of industries in Gujarat, green entrepreneurship can be an excellent option for waste management. It is the need of the hour for industries to adopt green technology and move towards sustainable models, which will make industries competitive in the future.

Bharat Jain, Managing Director, Gujarat Cleaner Production Centre, in his address highlighted the need to adopt new technologies and green practices in industrial waste management.

Sushil Khadakwal, Corporate Head, EHS and Sustainability, Alembic Pharmaceuticals, gave detailed guidance on the importance of environmental safety and sustainable practices in industries. He said that industries need to work not only on production but also by understanding their responsibility towards the environment. Through proper waste management, recycling and resource optimization, industries can reduce their costs and also help in reducing the impact on the environment.

Akul Senapati, Environment Head, AM/NS India, Hazira, gave detailed information about modern methods for industrial waste management and their experiments. He said that by adopting approaches like zero liquid discharge, waste to energy and circular economy, industries can protect the environment as well as increase their operational efficiency. Industrial waste management can be made more effective and sustainable by using modern technology and innovative solutions.

Avinash Hirpara, STO, CED Surat, highlighted the opportunities arising in the field of green entrepreneurship and opportunities for the youth. He said that environment-friendly business models are developing at a rapid pace in today’s times and many new startup opportunities are emerging for the youth. Youth can become self-reliant by bringing innovations in areas like waste management, renewable energy, recycling and eco-friendly products.

Arun Patel, Regional Officer, Gujarat Pollution Control Board, gave important information about the rules and environment-related guidelines applicable to industries. He said that it is very important to keep the pollution control systems updated from time to time and implement the necessary approvals and monitoring systems. Industries that adopt green and sustainable practices can become more reliable and competitive in the future and can play an important role in maintaining environmental balance.

General Manager of District Industries Center – Surat, JB Dave gave a detailed explanation about the assistance and schemes provided to industries by the government. He said that there are many schemes and assistance available to promote green entrepreneurship by the government and various organizations, which can be utilized properly by entrepreneurs to achieve success.
