Suspicious deaths of two young siblings in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas; probe on

INDORE: Suspicion surrounds the deaths of a seven-year-old boy and his three-year-old sister, who were found unresponsive in their bed on Saturday morning. The children had attended a birthday party with their mother the night before and went to sleep as usual.

Their mother, Priya Yadav, discovered them motionless when she tried to wake them for school.

They were rushed to Sanskar Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.The incident took place in the Dhancha Bhavan area of Dewas, where Priya, originally from Mathura, had been living in a rented house. According to neighbours Reena and her husband Rakesh, Priya woke them around 7 am, panicked and crying, saying her children, Nisha (3) and Hemant (7), who had slept beside her, were not waking up.Industrial Area Police Station In-charge Shashikant Chaurasia confirmed that a police team was sent to the spot to begin the investigation. "The case is suspicious, and the exact cause of death will only be known after we receive the post-mortem report," he said.Priya Yadav told police that she had a love marriage with her husband, Vishnu Katara, but they separated two years ago due to disputes. She moved to Dewas for work after a short stay in Pithampur.

On Friday night, she and her children attended a neighbour’s birthday party, where they ate cake and dal-bati. The children played with others before returning home and going to bed. She added that around 2 am, her son Hemant fell off the bed and she lifted him back up. When she woke in the morning to prepare them for school, she found them unresponsive.The children had recently been enrolled in a private school on 17 July.

They attended for a few days but had been absent since. Police also noted that the admission documents submitted by the mother were incomplete.The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem. Given the suspicious circumstances, TI Chaurasia stated that a team of doctors has been assigned to conduct the examination. He added that further steps will depend on the post-mortem findings and other evidence gathered.
