The ruling DMK on Thursday formally signed seat-sharing agreements with four outfits that were earlier allotted one seat each to contest as a part of the Secular Progressive Alliance.
The Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi, led by Thamimun Ansari, the Mukkulathor Puli Padai, led by actor Karunas, the Social Democratic Party of India, led by V.M.S. Mohammed Mubarak, and the Tamilar Desam Katchi, led by K.K. Selvakumar, will contest one seat each on the DMK’s ‘Rising Sun’ symbol.
The seat-sharing agreements were signed by DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and leaders of the respective parties at Anna Arivalayam, the DMK headquarters, in Chennai.
Former MLA joins DMK
Separately, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhgam (AMMK) deputy general secretary M. Rengasamy joined the DMK in the presence of Mr. Stalin on Thursday.
Mr. Rengasamy contested and won as the AIADMK candidate from Thanjavur Assembly segment in the 2011 and 2016 Assembly elections.
He was among the 18 dissident AIADMK MLAs who were disqualified for supporting the T.T.V. Dhinakaran faction in 2017.
