Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who is on an official visit to Germany, visited the library of the Tamil Department at the University of Cologne. In a social media post, Mr. Stalin said the library had a rare collection of Tamil literary works, which included some first editions.

He pointed out that his government contributed a sum of ₹1.25 crore to prevent the closure of the Tamil Department at the university. “The enthusiasm of Dr. Sven Wortmann, Mr. Sharon Nathan, Mrs. Daria Lambrecht over Tamil, shows that it [the contribution] has not been unfruitful,” he said.

Mr. Stalin added that his visit to the library in Cologne was a source of motivation for his government, which is setting up major libraries in Coimbatore and Tiruchi, following establishing ones in Chennai and Madurai.
