Tamil Nadu Minister of Public Works and Sports Development Aadhav Arjuna, on Wednesday (July 1, 2026), said it has come to light that during previous governments, the Public Works and Highways Department witnessed several irregularities, including centralised corruption, planned violations of rules, and bribery in the award of contracts.

In a statement, Mr. Arjuna said those who were in power at the time, their family members, and individuals close to them allegedly collected money from contractors by promising to award contracts in the Public Works and Highways Department. In many cases, money was collected, but the promised works were not allotted, leaving several contractors cheated.

“We are now receiving numerous complaints regarding these issues. Those who were affected or cheated after paying money may lodge complaints either directly with me or with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC). Complaints may be submitted to me in person or by email at [email protected],” he said.

The identities of complainants will be kept confidential, and they will be provided with the necessary legal protection. Appropriate legal steps will be taken to recover the money they have lost at the earliest, said Mr. Arjuna. He added such irregularities will not be allowed hereafter, and all contracts will be awarded with complete transparency.
