West Indies pacer Romario Shepherd took the first hat-trick of the 2026 T20 World Cup during the opening-day match against Scotland on Saturday.Shepherd achieved the feat in the 17th over of Scotland’s chase of 182, at a stage when Richie Berrington's side was already under pressure.The first wicket came on the second ball of the 17th over when Matthew Cross was dismissed attempting to steer a wide yorker. The ball went straight to Rutherford at point, and Cross was out for 11 off 11 balls.On the very next delivery, Shepherd removed Michael Leask. Leask tried to hit a length ball outside off towards midwicket, but Powell ran across from long-on to complete the catch. Leask was dismissed for a first-ball duck.Shepherd completed the hat-trick on 16.4 by dismissing left-handed Oliver Davidson. The ball tailed in from around the wicket, beat the inside edge, and hit the top of off stump. Davidson was also out for a duck.

The hat-trick left Scotland further behind in their chase, and the West Indies eventually won the match by 35 runs.T20I hattricks for WI

Earlier, Scotland won the toss and opted to bowl first.Shimron Hetmyer hit 64 off 36 balls to help West Indies to 182-5 in the second match of the T20 World Cup.Scotland had a whirlwind build-up after finding out only two weeks ago that they would replace Bangladesh, who were kicked out after they refused to play in India, citing security concerns.
