Taj Mahal braces for Yamuna fury: Floodwaters reach monument’s walls; alert sounded in Agra

NEW DELHI: The water level of the Yamuna river in Agra rose further, exceeding the danger mark and reaching the walls of the Taj Mahal, officials said on Monday.Rising water levels have also flooded homes of residents living along the riverbank.The increase follows recent heavy rainfall in the lower Himalayan regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.According to local historian Raj Kishore Raje, the Yamuna’s water levels are similar to those in 2023 and have reached the Taj Mahal's walls, as last time.He added that there is no damage to the monument, as its construction is designed to withstand such water levels.The Mughal-era monument, situated on the banks of the Yamuna, remains safe. The district administration has set up a control room and is closely monitoring the situation to manage the flood risk.
