ERODE: Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK president M. K. Stalin said on Thursday that the Congress candidates for the Assembly elections would be announced by tonight, adding that Rahul Gandhi would release the list.The Congress, which is contesting as part of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, has been allotted 28 seats. Though the seat-sharing details were announced on March 28, the party has not yet released its candidate list, even as nominations have been under way for four days.Speaking at a campaign meeting in Thindal in Erode district, Stalin said Rahul Gandhi would announce the Congress candidate for Erode East by tonight.
He urged voters to support the Congress nominee in the constituency and called on the public to ensure victory for all DMK alliance candidates from Erode district. Erode East has been allotted to the Congress.Meanwhile, the Congress Central Election Committee is scheduled to meet in Delhi at 8 pm tonight in the presence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and K. C. Venugopal to finalise candidates. With the last date for filing nominations on April 6, the party is expected to announce its final list soon after the meeting.
