The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), under the leadership of Chief Minister MK Stalin, eyeing on a consecutive term by highlighting its governance record and welfare-driven policies, often called the “Dravidian model"
The AIADMK is striving to stage a comeback, joining hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a bid to consolidate opposition votes. Though traditionally weaker in Tamil Nadu, the BJP is trying to expand its ground in the state by focusing on urban voters and strategic alliances.
Key Leaders To Watch Out For:
K Palaniswami (AIDMK): The AIADMK has renominated its chief K Palaniswami, the Leader of Opposition, from his home turf of Edappadi constituency in Salem district. He served as the 7th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 2017 to 2021.
He is spearheading the NDA campaign, which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a part of, to unseat the ruling DMK, positioning himself as the primary challenger and the alliance’s presumptive Chief Ministerial face.
K P Munusamy (AIADMK): A sitting MLA, Munusamy has been officially fielded as the AIADMK candidate for the Veppanahalli constituency in Krishnagiri district. As the Deputy General Secretary of the AIADMK, Munusamy is believed to have played a key role in shaping the NDA alliance in Tamil Nadu.
Dindigul C Sreenivasan (AIADMK): Sreenivasan has been officially renominated by AIADMK to contest from his home stronghold, the Dindigul constituency, for a third consecutive term. He is the sitting MLA for Dindigul, having bagged the seat in both the 2016 and 2021 elections.
Sreenivasan serves as the party treasurer, a key post he has held since July 2022 after the party’s internal leadership restructuring.
MK Stalin (DMK): Chief Minister MK Stalin is the primary face and strategist for the ruling Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA). Serving as both the incumbent Chief Minister and the Chief of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), he is leading the bid for a second consecutive term.
Udhayanidhi Stalin (DMK): In the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Udhayanidhi Stalin has significantly transitioned from a star campaigner to a central leader, serving as the Deputy Chief Minister and the second-in-command of the DMK-led alliance.
Being a key youth leader in the state, his primary responsibility is to mobilise the young voters.
Vijay (TVK): In the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, actor-turned-politician Vijay is making his electoral debut as the Chief Ministerial candidate for his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), positioning himself as a third-front alternative to the established DMK and AIADMK.
