Tamil Nadu 2026 Assembly polls saw high turnout, with Karur leading at 89.32 percent, several districts crossing mid 80s.

Tamil Nadu witnessed a sharp rise in voter turnout as polling concluded for the 2026 Assembly elections, with several districts recording participation levels nearing or crossing the high-80% mark.

According to official figures, Karur topped the state with the highest turnout at 89.32%, followed closely by Salem at 88.02% and Erode at 87.59%. Dharmapuri and Tiruppur also reported robust participation, registering 87.28% and 86.33% respectively.

Polling for the 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu began at 7 am and continued until 6 pm. The counting of votes will take place on May 4.

Other districts reflected similarly strong voter engagement. Ariyalur recorded a turnout of 83.09%, while Tiruchirappalli stood at 82.76%. Chennai, often known for comparatively moderate urban voting trends, posted a significant 81.34% turnout, indicating increased participation in urban and semi-urban regions.

In contrast, Madurai and Thoothukudi reported relatively lower figures, at 77.89% and 77.56% respectively, though both still reflected steady voter engagement.
