Tamil Nadu horror: 10-year-old girl abducted on way to shop, found dead; locals stage protest

COIMBATORE: A 33-year-old man was arrested early Saturday by Sulur Police in Coimbatore in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Kannampalayam in Sulur.The accused, identified as Karthik of Nagapattinam, had been living in Pallapalayam near Sulur in Coimbatore district. Police also detained his aide, Mohan Raj, for allegedly assisting him.The girl, who had gone missing on Thursday evening, was found dead on a lakebed near Kannampalayam on Friday. According to police, she had gone to a grocery shop near her house when Karthik allegedly abducted her on a two-wheeler and later killed her.After the incident, the victim’s parents, relatives, and members of the public staged a protest on Sulur Road from Friday night until early Saturday. Inspector general of police (West Zone) R V Ramya Bharathi visited the spot and held peace talks with the protesters. The protesters demanded strict action against those responsible. Sulur constituency TVK MLA N. M. Sukumar also visited the area and assured them that a proper investigation would be carried out and action taken.
