The Tamil Nadu government has said the online "Anywhere Registration" system will become mandatory for property transactions from August 17, 2026, in a move aimed at making administration more transparent and public services easier to access.
Under the system, people will be able to submit and register documents round the clock from any location, without having to visit sub-registrar offices in person.
The announcement was made by Commercial Taxes and Registration Minister D Logesh Tamilselvan during a high-level performance review meeting, according to an official release issued on Tuesday.
At the meeting, the minister said that since the present government took office on May 10, 2026, strict steps had been taken to fully remove bribery in the registration department and ensure complete transparency.
He asked officials to provide proper seating for visitors, handle public grievances carefully, avoid corrupt practices, and make sure documents are processed immediately and returned to the concerned people on the same day.
The release said the online registration facility will apply to the first sale of a plot and the first sale of a flat. Its main features include dedicated logins, document uploads, biometric verification, online payment and filing, clarifications, digital delivery, downloading of registered documents, legal validity and a help desk.
The technical requirements for users include high-speed internet connectivity, government-authorised L0 and L1 fingerprint scanners, and iris-capturing devices. The minister said the initiative would let people register properties at their convenience, reduce crowding at major sub-registrar offices, balance the workload across offices, cut waiting time, and improve the quality, efficiency and speed of registration services in Tamil Nadu.
Overall, the state government said the mandatory rollout of the online system from August 17, 2026, is intended to make property registration easier, faster and more transparent, while reducing the need for physical visits to registration offices.
