CHENNAI: In order to promote the practice of mediation and equip students and legal professionals with tools for effective, non-adversarial dispute resolution, the Saveetha School of Law inaugurated the MAADHYAM–SSL Mediation and Conflict Resolution Centre on its campus on July 5.It has been established in association with Maadhyam International Council for Conflict Resolution.The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Amarjit Singh Chandhiok, senior advocate and former additional solicitor-general of India. He is also the president of Maadhyam.
In his address to students, Chandhiok underlined the growing relevance of mediation in India’s legal landscape.A memorandum of understanding was also signed between Maadhyam and Saveetha school of law where the centre will play the role as the southern chapter of Maadhyam International Council for Conflict Resolution.Among others who participated in the event were Narmadha Sampath, former additional advocate-general of Tamil Nadu, and a certified mediator.The event was graced by the leadership of SIMATS, including chancellor N M Veeraiyan, pro-chancellor Ashwani Kumar, principal, Saveetha School of Law, Asha Sundaram, and head of the department of labour law Girija Anil.
