Fresh off their wedding, actress Janani and Sai Roshan Shyam, a commercial pilot, are looking forward to celebrating their first Tamil New Year as a married couple. The newlyweds open up about new beginnings and what makes Tamil New Year especially meaningful this year.

..‘WE’LL EMBRACE BOTH OUR TRADITIONS EVERY YEAR’Janani: Tamil New Year marks a new beginning for us. My parents would keep a Devi the previous night and make sure we woke up seeing her face. Since it's Roshan's first time celebrating, I'm going to incorporate this into our celebration. I'll also make sure we embrace both our traditions every year.Roshan: I’ve never had the opportunity to celebrate Tamil New Year or Vishu in India because I’d usually be out of the country this time of the year.

So, this year is extremely special as I not only get to celebrate these festivals but also get to do it with Janani as my wife.‘IT'S STILL SINKING IN THAT WE ARE HUSBAND AND WIFE’Janani: It's still sinking in that we are husband and wife. To me, he is still my best friend. We are enjoying this phase and trying to navigate the responsibilities that come as a newly married couple.Roshan: It’s been a great couple of weeks. I'm still getting used to this new phase, but we are enjoying the process.

‘WHEN ROSHAN WAS ABOUT TO TIE THE THALI, HE WAS A BIT TEARY-EYED’Janani: On our wedding day, I was a bundle of nerves, but was going with the flow and rituals. When Roshan was about to tie the thali , he was a bit teary-eyed. I told him not to cry because I knew the moment he did, I’d also start crying.‘Tamil New Year and Vishu are coming back to back, so it’s going to be a double celebration’Janani: I’ll be celebrating Tamil New Year along with Roshan and his family. It’s special because this will be the first festival that we will be celebrating as a married couple. Tamil New Year and Vishu are coming back to back, so it’s going to be a double celebration. I’m looking forward to having Vishu sadhya with our family. Vishu holds special meaning in our relationship. In 2024, during the phase when we’d just started talking and were growing closer, Roshan was celebrating Vishu with his family in Muscat and I remember him explaining how they go about the celebration.
