Far-right activist Laura Loomer has come under fire over a series of social media posts that appeared to encourage an attack on Iran during the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Loomer’s remarks came as Iran was preparing for Khamenei’s funeral, scheduled for July 9. Iranian state media has reported that his body is being kept in cold storage ahead of the ceremonies, which are expected to draw millions of mourners.
Posts Ignite Controversy
Reacting to a post about the funeral preparations, Loomer wrote, “A funeral for Khameni? That’s what we call a target rich environment. 💣"
She later shared another post on the same subject, tagging the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), saying, “The IDF has the opportunity to do the funniest thing. @IDF."
Responding to a user who appeared to criticise the idea of an attack, Loomer added, “I’ll never say no to an opportunity to see the US or IDF bomb a bunch of jihadis."
The remarks quickly spread across social media, with many users criticising Loomer for appearing to advocate violence.
