A critical post by Rohini Acharya, daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, has once again drawn attention to internal rifts within the party. Posted on social media on Sunday ahead of a key organisational meeting, her remarks question the RJD’s current course of action and are also being seen as a veiled dig at the leadership style now heading the party.
The RJD held national executive meeting on January 25 in Patna.
‘Bitter, worrisome and deeply painful truth’
In her post, Rohini said those who genuinely believe in “Laluism" would naturally raise questions about what she described as the party’s “sorry state". She said the party was founded to fight for the rights of marginalised and deprived sections, and anyone committed to that cause could not remain silent about its current condition.
“Whoever truly embodies Laluism in the true sense—anyone who has selflessly struggled for the party that Lalu Ji founded to steadfastly fight for the interests of the marginalized population, the deprived; whoever takes pride in Lalu Ji’s continuous struggle and efforts for socio-economic justice; whoever cares to proudly carry forward Lalu Ji’s political legacy and ideology—such a person will undoubtedly question those responsible for the party’s current sorry state," Rohini said.
Describing the situation as “bitter, worrying and deeply painful", Rohini Acharya alleged that control of the party had slipped into the hands of “infiltrators and conspirators" who had been tasked to end “Laluism". She claimed these elements were working from within to weaken the ideology of Laluism and had positioned themselves in influential roles.
She further alleged that these people were backed by “fascist forces" and were sent with the aim of destroying the party’s core values. According to her, those who truly carry forward Lalu Prasad Yadav’s political legacy must question such forces, regardless of the consequences.
Rohini’s message to the RJD leadership
Taking a clear dig at the current leadership style, Acharya said those entrusted with responsibility should look within the party instead of avoiding questions. She accused the leadership of evading answers, spreading confusion and failing to give logical and factual explanations.
She also criticised what she described as misbehaviour, abusive conduct and the use of uncivil language against people who raise concerns in the interest of Laluism. Acharya said introspection was needed, rather than attacking those who question the party’s direction.
In her post, she added that continued silence from the leadership would amount to proof of complicity with those allegedly plotting against the party’s ideology.
“Today, the real command of the party—known for fighting for the rights and entitlements of the people—lies in the hands of those infiltrators and conspirators sent by fascist opponents, who were dispatched with the task of utterly destroying Laluism; such people, having entrenched themselves, seem to be succeeding to a great extent in their dirty motives." The one currently shouldering the responsibility of leadership will have to look inward into their own collar—rather than fleeing from questions, evading questions, shirking from giving answers, spreading confusion instead of logical and factual responses, and resorting to misconduct, rude behavior, and uncivil language toward those who speak for Laluism and the party’s interests", reads her post.
Bitter fallout
Rohini’s remarks come in the wake of her dramatic break with both politics and her family following the RJD’s heavy defeat in last year’s Bihar Assembly elections. The party’s seat count fell sharply from 75 to just 24, while the Mahagathbandhan alliance managed only 35 seats.
A day after the results, Rohini announced she was quitting politics and distancing herself from the family. She, at that time, blamed two close aides of Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, for the defeat.
In an emotional post at the time, Acharya alleged she was humiliated and abused within the party setup. She said she had been insulted and added that she would not compromise on her self-respect or give up the truth. Rohini also warned others against following the path she had taken, claiming she had been torn away from the family for speaking out.
