'Taunted Every Time He Went To Buy Milk': What Radhika Yadav's Father Said During Questioning

Radhika Yadav Murder Case: State-level tennis player Radhika Yadav’s murder, allegedly at the hands of her father, has sent shockwaves across the nation. Deepak Yadav was sent to 14-day police custody by a local court in Gurugram on Saturday.

The 25-year-old former player was shot dead by her father at the family’s double-storey home in the upscale Sushant Lok area of Gurugram on Thursday. Deepak Yadav, 49, later confessed to killing his daughter and was arrested. Police have ruled out love or honour killing angles.

According to sources, Deepak Yadav confessed that he shot at Radhika because he was often taunted for living off her income. Police, however, in an official statement, claimed that the tennis academy Radhika ran was the bone of contention between the father and the daughter.

Deepak Yadav ‘Taunted’ By Locals In Village

Police said Deepak allegedly could not stand Radhika’s success, as she was gradually rising in the ranks of tennis and was coaching at a private academy. She was individually teaching high-profile clients and was earning a decent income.

During questioning, police said Deepak claimed he was taunted by locals whenever he went to buy milk at his village in Wazirabad, as reported by The Indian Express. Deepak was allegedly upset after locals said his house was running on Radhika’s money, and he was also dependent on her.

Deepak also asked Radhika several times to stop working at the academy, but she refused. Unable to take the taunts anymore, he decided to kill her. Deepak allegedly shot dead his daughter at their Gurugram residence at around 10.30 am on Thursday.

Deepika was cooking at the residence when Deepak took his pistol and shot her in the waist. Her uncle, Kuldeep, who lives on the ground floor with his family, rushed upstairs after hearing the gunshots and found Radhika lying in a pool of blood.

Radhika was ranked 1999 by the International Tennis Federation. According to its website, Radhika had played tournaments earlier this year in Indore and Kuala Lumpur, but these were in the qualifying events and not the main draw.
