Breezy Johnson had a day she will never forget in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. The American skier won Olympic downhill gold. Just hours later, she said yes to a wedding proposal. Then, to top it all off, Taylor Swift herself replied to her engagement post. It all happened on Thursday, February 12, after the women’s super G race.

Connor Watkins, her longtime partner, walked up to her with a special gift. He proposed with a block printed with lyrics from Taylor Swift’s song “The Alchemy.” Johnson shared the happy news on Instagram. Soon after, Taylor Swift saw it and responded. In one single day, Breezy Johnson celebrated gold, love, and a message from one of the world’s biggest music stars.

Breezy Johnson’s fiancé Connor Watkins proposes with Taylor Swift’s “The Alchemy” lyrics as singer replies on Instagram

Connor Watkins chose words from “The Alchemy” because the song means a lot to them.

The track came out in the summer of 2024, around the time they moved in together. Many fans believe the song is about Taylor Swift’s relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. But for Johnson and Watkins, it tells their own story.“The Alchemy is a song about a sports person and the poet that are in love. And I feel like he’s the poet and I’m the sports person,” Breezy Johnson said. “We always hear the song and we smile and think about each other.

… It’s just kind of really special to us.”

After the proposal, Johnson and Watkins posted about their engagement on Instagram and included the lyric block in the photo. Taylor Swift replied in the comments, writing, “Where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me,” followed by, “CONGRATULATIONS!!!” Johnson later shared a screenshot of the reply on her Instagram story and wrote, “I am deaddddddd.”This was not the first time Johnson connected her ski life with Taylor Swift.

Back in July 2023, members of the U.S. Ski Team went to the Eras Tour stop in Denver. Johnson has openly shared her love for Swift’s music since then.As if the day was not full enough, Johnson also got her original gold medal back. After she won the downhill, the medal broke while she was jumping and celebrating. Officials replaced it with a new one, but that version was not engraved like the first. Johnson had said she wished she could keep the original medal. Later, she posted that she finally received it back. From the slopes in Italy to a sweet message online, Breezy Johnson’s perfect day brought together sport, love, and music in a way she will always remember.
