“Taylor and Travis, before Abby and I fell asleep that magical night, the last thing we discussed was our hope for you.We hope that you feel so surrounded by concentric circles of love and support from your family, friends, and global admirers that you enter your new marriage era knowing this: You’re not on your own, kids.

You never will be.We love you, Abby and Glennon (Your Retired English teacher and PE teacher),” wrote Abby Wambach and Glennon Doyle on Instagram.Wambach, a legendary retired American soccer forward, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, and 2015 FIFA World Cup champion, is the PE teacher. Doyle, an American author, podcaster, and LGBTQ+ activist, is the English teacher.Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce reportedly used the phrase, “Your English teacher and gym teacher are getting married,” in their 2025 engagement announcement. The teacher-reference was interestingly mirrored by Wambach and Doyle in their wedding wish for the NFL power couple. While this heartwarming wish could have delighted Swift, she was dealt a disheartening blow by news regarding one of her former teachers.

Taylor Swift’s teacher and bodyguard Kirk Schwabe passes away the day Swift wedded Travis Kelce

Nine.com’s Chelsea McLaughlin reports that Taylor Swift’s former teacher turned bodyguard Kirk Schwabe passed away on the same day as her wedding to Travis Kelce.

Schwabe’s daughter, Sarah Gordon, confirmed the news to The Telegraph. “If you know my dad, you know he has poured his heart into everything he’s done,” she said. “He has always loved law enforcement. He loves his students…Whether you know him as Officer Schwabe, Mr Schwabe, or simply as a friend, you probably have a memory of him that has stayed with you.” Gordon said she was grateful to know “his role in Taylor’s story will be remembered.” Schwabe worked as a police officer in Chicago. Before that, he taught criminal justice at Hendersonville High School in Tennessee. Swift attended the same high school from 2004 to 2006 before being homeschooled to focus more on her music career. Schwabe then worked as security for then-16-year-old rising country star. But Swift’s fame kept rising, and he could not catch up with it. It was taking a toll on him. The long and hard-working hours caused him burnout. But he never stopped loving and supporting Taylor from the background.“I told her, ‘You’re a superstar, you know. This is not fun and games no more. You are it. Everything keeps going up and up and up, and the sky’s the limit for you,” Schwabe told The Telegraph before his passing.

As for Swift’s choice in choosing Kelce as her husband, Schwabe said, “I do trust Taylor’s judgment. She knows what’s best.”Schwabe’s wife, Jane Schwabe, also spoke about her husband’s connection to the global pop icon. “He treated [Swift] like he did his daughters,” she said.As per The Telegraph, Kirk Schwabe passed away after a battle with cancer on July 3. The same day, Taylor got married to Travis at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
