The investigation into the alleged sexual harassment and religious conversion at the Nashik BPO unit associated with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has widened, with Special Investigation Team (SIT) sources claiming that key accused Nida Khan had allegedly visited the victim’s home to conduct religious rituals, provide religious instruction and pressure her into adopting specific religious practices.

According to sources familiar with the probe, investigators have found indications that Khan allegedly attempted to influence the victim’s mindset through repeated religious teachings, videos and rituals conducted over a period of time.

Sources claimed that Khan allegedly conducted prayers associated with her faith at the victim’s residence, encouraged the victim to wear religious attire, and attempted to alter her views through sustained religious messaging.

Investigators are also examining around 171 links related to religious content that were allegedly sent to the victim as part of efforts to influence her thinking and behaviour, sources said. The SIT is probing whether the alleged activities extended beyond a personal relationship and formed part of a larger, systematic effort targeting employees in a corporate environment.

The latest developments come days after Khan was arrested in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on the night of May 7 after remaining absconding for over 40 days following the rejection of her anticipatory bail. Khan was later remanded to police custody by a Nashik court till May 11. The court also permitted her to meet her mother twice daily during custody due to her early pregnancy.

Another Phone Recovered

Investigators have now recovered another mobile phone allegedly in Khan’s possession at the time of her arrest, sources said. The device has reportedly been sent for forensic analysis.

According to SIT sources, investigators suspect the phone may contain chats, communications and digital material linked to alleged religious conversion activities and conversations with other Hindu employees.

Police are trying to determine whether there were additional meetings or interactions with employees, what kind of messages were exchanged, and whether there was a broader network involved. Earlier, another phone belonging to Khan had already been recovered from Nashik.

Investigators suspect Khan may have attempted to flee with the second device because it potentially contained sensitive material linked to the case, sources added.

Financial Transactions Under Scanner

The SIT has also reportedly intensified scrutiny of Khan’s financial transactions.

Sources said investigators have seized her bank passbooks and are auditing account activity after investigating officers earlier told the court they suspected Khan may have received financial assistance from certain groups.

Police are also probing alleged international links, including possible connections to Malaysia and an individual identified as Imran, according to submissions made before the court during earlier hearings.

Authorities are questioning Khan and her family members to identify who may have assisted her while she was absconding for nearly a month.

Investigators are additionally examining whether local corporator Matin Majid Patel allegedly provided financial support to Khan through intermediaries for household expenses while she was hiding. Patel has been accused of harbouring Khan at a house in the Naregaon area. Authorities have also reportedly served a three-day notice related to alleged illegal construction on the property.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra minister Sanjay Shirsat has demanded an SIT inquiry into the alleged role of AIMIM leaders in helping Khan evade arrest, though AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel has dismissed the allegations and accused the government of conducting a “trial by media".
