Members of the Telugu Desam Party’s women’s wing on Monday staged a protest at the party’s district office in Visakhapatnam, condemning remarks made by former Minister Gudivada Amarnath against Home Minister V. Anitha.

Addressing a press conference, State party secretary Edulapaka Sujatha termed the remarks as objectionable and inappropriate, particularly as they were directed at a person holding a constitutional position. She demanded that Mr. Amarnath tender an apology to the Home Minister.

As part of the protest, the women’s wing members symbolically beat a flex banner bearing Mr. Amarnath’s image with eggs and slippers. They also took out a mock funeral procession of his effigy and burnt it.

Ms. Sujatha alleged that the remarks reflected a lack of respect towards women and urged Mr. Amarnath to withdraw them and apologise. Several party activists participated in the programme.
