A mathematics teacher at MSM Higher Secondary School, Kallingalparamba, has been suspended after he was accused of fracturing the hand of a fifth standard student by beating her with a cane for allegedly not paying attention in class.
The school management suspended the teacher, Balraj, a native of Vadakara, after he was arrested following a complaint lodged by the child’s parents.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred in the classroom on Friday (July 10, 2026) when the teacher allegedly beat the student with a cane, fracturing her hand.
The child’s mother alleged that neither the teacher nor the school arranged medical treatment. Instead, teachers reportedly took the injured student home. Her parents later took her to a hospital, where doctors treated the fracture and placed her hand in a plaster cast.
The family has also filed a complaint with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, alleging excessive corporal punishment. The police said legal proceedings against the teacher were under way.
School Principal K. Abdul Jaleel and PTA President Maqbool P. said the school would not shield the teacher and would cooperate with the investigation. They said the management suspended him pending further action.
