The State government has constituted an expert committee to recommend which model of the helicopter should be bought to replace the existing one being used by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and other VIPs.

The committee had been constituted a few days ago following reports submitted by the Additional Director-General of Police (ADG), Intelligence, and the Managing Director of the A.P. Aviation Corporation on the issue.

Principal Secretary to Government (Poll), General Administration Department, is its Chairman. Secretary to Government, Finance and ADG, Intelligence, or his representative responsible for the Chief Minister’s security, are its members, while AP Aviation Corporation’s Managing Director is its member-convener.

The committee will also study the condition of the present helicopter and submit its report in two months.

Meanwhile, the Intelligence and aviation corporation officials started studying the functionality of the helicopter following detection of technical snag on Monday, which forced Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal to cut short his visit.

“Instructions have been given to examine the condition of other helicopters being used by the VIPs in the State,” an officer told The Hindu on Tuesday.
