Tecno Pova Curve 2 review: Endurance, thoughtfully designed

You don't expect a phone with an 8,000mAh battery to feel slim in your hand. But the Tecno Pova Curve 2 does—and that's probably the most interesting thing about it. At 7.42mm thin and 195 grams, this phone genuinely tricks you into forgetting the size of the cell it's carrying.

It's the kind of thing you only appreciate once you're actually holding it.Beyond the battery-and-build story, there's more going on here. A bright curved AMOLED display, a triple-chipset connectivity setup that's a first for its price segment, and HiOS 16 with AI tools that speak multiple Indian languages. Priced from Rs 27,999, the Pova Curve 2 isn't short on ambition. But at that price, ambition alone doesn't cut it—execution matters.

Spacecraft vibes, surprisingly comfortable in hand

Tecno has been putting more focus on design lately, and it shows.The Pova Curve 2 doesn't look or feel like a phone that's hiding an 8,000mAh battery. The aggressively curved edges on both the display and the rear panel create an illusion of something even slimmer than its 7.42mm profile. At 195 grams, it's well-balanced—light enough that you don't feel the battery heft during extended use. For context, other phones with similar sized batteries often weigh 200 grams-plus and are also thicker.

It doesn’t quite feel like a typical phone in this segment.

The rear panel has a cyber-meets-starship aesthetic that's distinctly Tecno. There's the etched circuit-like graphics near the bottom-right corner, the 'Pova' branding with an orange accent, and a triangular camera module tucked into the top-left that mimics spacecraft thrusters. It's a lot of personality for a mid-ranger, and it works. The matte polycarbonate finish feels good in hand, though it does get a bit slippery—and the Melting Silver colour, the one we have, picks up fingerprints despite the matte texture, though they're hard to spot on the lighter colour.

The phone carries an IP64 rating for dust and water resistance. Competitors like the Redmi Note 15 Pro offer IP68 at this price, so Tecno could have been more aggressive here. But between the slim profile, the balanced weight, and the bold design language, the Pova Curve 2 is easily one of the most visually distinctive phones in its segment.

A bright, curvy display that punches above its weight

The 6.78-inch curved AMOLED panel is one of the Pova Curve 2's strongest cards.

It's bright enough for comfortable outdoor use—Tecno claims a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, and enabling the Extra Brightness toggle in settings makes text and images legible even in direct sunlight. Colours are punchy at the default setting, the 1.5K resolution keeps things sharp, and the curved edges give video content a more immersive, premium feel.

The panel supports up to 120Hz refresh rate, which keeps everyday navigation smooth.

Tecno does advertise 144Hz on the spec sheet, though in daily use the display mostly fluctuates between 60Hz and 120Hz depending on the task. It's not something you'll notice in regular scrolling, but competitive gamers might want to keep this in mind.Widevine L1 support means OTT platforms stream at full HD resolution, and the Gorilla Glass 7i protection adds peace of mind. The one area where the multimedia experience takes a hit is the single bottom-firing speaker—it's decently loud and sounds acceptable for quick YouTube sessions, but you'll want earbuds or a Bluetooth speaker for anything longer.

Smart where it matters

The Pova Curve 2 runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7100—a 6nm chipset—paired with 8GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. For the way most people actually use their phones—browsing, social media, messaging, UPI payments, streaming—it handles everything without complaint. App launches are quick, multitasking is smooth, and the overall experience feels responsive day to day.The casual games run just fine, and popular titles like BGMI are perfectly playable.

Call of Duty: Mobile defaults to Medium graphics, and while it's smooth enough at those settings, you may notice occasional frame drops during intense moments. It's clear Tecno prioritised battery efficiency and slim design over raw processing muscle—and for the target buyer who values endurance over power bragging rights, that's a reasonable trade-off.But where the Dimensity 7100 really comes alive is in Tecno's triple-chipset connectivity setup.

The phone pairs the processor with a dedicated G1 signal chipset and an SE1 Wi-Fi chipset, working together to stabilise your connection in real-world conditions—think packed metro stations, congested networks, or spotty coverage zones. It supports 20 5G bands, carries TÜV Rheinland certification for high network performance, and includes URSP intelligent switching that picks the strongest available connection automatically.

Then there's FreeLink, which lets you make calls and share messages with nearby devices up to 2km away even without any network signal. In a country where coverage can be patchy outside metros, that's a genuinely practical, India-relevant feature.On the software side, HiOS 16 running on Android 16 is one of the more underrated Android skins in this segment. The iOS 26-inspired design cues are evident—depth-effect wallpapers, transparency effects, layered animations—but Tecno adds its own flavour.

The homescreen depth effect, where wallpaper elements overlay your app icons, is a visual trick that other brands haven't explored yet. There's solid customisation on offer too: icon packs, themes, fonts, and an AI theme generator that adapts system colours to your chosen wallpaper.The AI toolkit is where things get genuinely interesting. Tecno's ELLA AI 2.0 assistant understands Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, and Marathi—making it one of the more locally aware AI implementations at this price.

The all-scenario AI Noise Cancellation is a standout, cleaning up audio across regular calls, WhatsApp calls, Zoom meetings, and gaming voice chats. The image editor handles object erasing cleanly, and the AI translator supports several Indian languages.A few things to note: the phone ships with around 43 preinstalled apps, though most can be uninstalled. And the software update commitment stands at 2 years of OS updates and 3 years of security patches—slightly below what some competitors promise, though adequate for most users who upgrade every two to three years.

8000mAh that comfortably outlasts a day

The 8000mAh battery is the phone's headline feature, and for the most part, it delivers. With regular everyday use—calls, social media, some streaming, messaging—the Pova Curve 2 comfortably stretches to about a day and a half. That means you can genuinely skip the overnight charge and still have juice left the next morning. Even with heavier use involving gaming and camera work, it lasts a full day with around 20-30 percent to spare.

Charging is surprisingly brisk for a battery this size. The bundled 45W charger takes the phone from flat to 73% in an hour and completes the full charge in about 1 hour and 24 minutes. For a standard lithium-ion cell (not silicon-carbon), that's impressive. And yes, Tecno includes the charger in the box—a small but appreciated touch.

A capable primary camera

The camera setup on the Pova Curve 2 is straightforward. There's a 50-megapixel primary sensor that does the heavy lifting, a 13-megapixel selfie camera, and auxiliary lenses that handle background processing.

No ultrawide, no telephoto—just one main shooter doing the work.In daylight, the primary camera produces 12-megapixel binned images with natural, true-to-life colours. This is actually a welcome approach—the Pova Curve 2 doesn't oversaturate greens or boost contrast artificially the way some competitors do. Dynamic range is good, and close-up shots show solid resolved detail. The 2X digital zoom crops are usable in good light, though they do soften up predictably.Low-light performance is more modest. Images come out softer with some detail loss in shadows, and the dedicated Night mode offers marginal improvements through longer exposure stacking. The selfie camera does well in daylight with good facial detail and natural skin tones, though the portrait mode's edge detection could be more precise.Video recording goes up to 2K at 30fps, which is serviceable. Without OIS, you'll want to enable Ultra Steady mode for smoother footage.

It's not the phone's strongest suit, but for social media clips and quick recordings, it gets the job done.

A slim endurance champ with real personality

The Tecno Pova Curve 2 is built around a clear idea: deliver massive battery life in a design that doesn't make you feel like you're carrying a brick. And on that promise, it delivers convincingly. The 7.42mm profile with an 8000mAh battery is something you’ll appreciate every time you pick the phone up. HiOS 16 is surprisingly refined, the display is vibrant and immersive, the connectivity tech is ahead of its class, and the design has genuine character.The trade-offs are real—the Dimensity 7100 chipset won't win any performance races, and the camera setup is basic for the segment. But Tecno has been upfront about what this phone prioritises, and for its target audience—someone who wants a phone that lasts long, looks cool, stays connected, and handles daily tasks without fuss—the Pova Curve 2 makes a strong case.At Rs 27,999, the competition is stiff. But few options feel this intentional—and for many buyers, that alone will make the decision fairly straightforward. It’s a simple proposition, but an effective one.
